TUESDAY TRAINING RIDE
A 5 mile loop along Westchester Parkway. This is a year round ride that is
popular with local cyclists. The number of riders and intensity of the ride
vary with the season and time of the year. During the non-racing season
(Sep - Dec) 15 to 20 riders doing low intensity tempo riding. During the
race season (Jan - Aug) 30 to 80 riders will ride at race intensity for 4 laps
after 2 warm up laps. Ride starts at 6:30 from Mervyn's parking lot at
Manchester & Sepulveda Blvds. in Westchester.
THURSDAY TRAINING RIDES
Track training - Some of us take advantage of having America's only
indoor velodrome in our backyard. While there are several training
opportunities offered at the track, this is a favorite of ours. It is an hour
and a half of interval training at it's best followed by 20 to 30 minutes of
motor pacing at speeds approaching 40 mph. Ride starts at 7 pm. Home
Depot Center Complex in Carson.
Criterium Race Training - Race paced training on a USCF sanctioned 1.1
mile, 4 cornered race course. Open to all comers and is very popular with
people who like to go fast. They race for 50 minutes and 5 laps after 2
warm-up laps. This is a year round ride that attracts anywhere from 50 to
150 riders. Starts at 7:30 pm. Santa Fe at Carson St. in Long Beach.
SATURDAY TRAINING RIDES
During the non-racing season (Sep - Dec), we meet and do a variety of
rides. Short and long, hard and easy, depending on the feeling of the
group. All rides start and finish at Liemert Park in Los Angeles' Crenshaw
District. Roll out at 8:15.
During the race season (Jan - Aug), we join a group of 100 to 200 riders
and do a group training ride we call "Montrose". This ride starts in
Desconso Gardens in La Canada near the Rose Bowl and covers about 45
miles on it's way to the official "end" in Sierra Madre. Once we reach the
finish, we ride about another 5 miles back to our starting point. This "race
paced" ride starts at 8:20 from the Trader Joe's Market in South Pasadena
(corner of Mission and Grand).
SUNDAY TRAINING RIDES - RACE DAY
During the non-race season, there is no official MMCC Sunday ride.
Members do get together and ride but start locations vary because riders
have so many riding group options to choose from. We'll usually discuss it
after Saturday's ride.
During the race season, we're out there racing somewhere 2 to 3
weekends a month throughout Southern California.
FUN RIDES
There are numerous organized rides scheduled year round throughout
Southern California. A couple of our favorites are the Solvang metric and
full centuries and the "Cool Breeze" century along the California coastline.
MMCC riders supports organized rides as much as our schedules allow.
Keep an eye out for us ;-)
